How to Maintain a Beautiful Weed Free Lawn

Discover how you can maintain your lawn all summer long.

Everyone loves a beautiful lawn. Having a weed free lawn that everyone envies is easier than you think.  Here are a few things that you should do each season.

  1. Sharpen your mower blade.

–          Your grass will stay healthy. A dull blade shreds the grass which causes stress.

  1. Raise your mower and cut high.

–          At least 3 ½” – 4 ½” high. Then your grass can easily survive the hot, dry summer weather.

  1. Early spring, apply a fertilizer/crab grass preventer (pre-emergence).
  2. Late spring, apply a fertilizer with weed control commonly called WEED & FEED.

There are two types of weed killers. Pre-emergent herbicides kill weeds before they emerge from the ground. Post-emergent herbicides attack the established growing weeds and is applied when you can see the weeds.

To treat your lawn with both fertilizer and weed control you only need a spreader and LAWN FERTILIZER WITH WEED CONTROL.  Make sure you read and follow all of the details and directions of the fertilizer/weed control bag.

The most effective way to apply it is to a wet lawn early in the morning of a sunny day. You want the powder portion of the weed killer to stick to the leaves of the weeds. If rain is in the forecast for two days, hold off. Wait for key conditions to apply.  Then after it’s been properly applied, in a few days, you’ll see clover, dandelions along with various weeds curl up and start to die. With the fertilizer portion, you will see its effect in a week or two with rich, dark green grass blades.

You may not eliminate every single weed in your first treatment, but you will see a major improvement. It may take a few seasons to get your lawn to look like the grass at a professional ball park, but you’ll surely love the results.
