Last week marked the Fall Equinox or the first day of fall. Thursday was the first day of fall north of the equator, and the first day of spring in the southern half of the world. What this really means is that summer is over and the beach bums of the East Coast sigh as they walk off the sand in the style of routed Charlie Brown. Alas, there is hope yet in the changing season. The days may be shorter, but we’ll soon get to experience the crisp autumn winds of change. At Courtland Hearth, we’re excited about the cooler weather. It’s a great time to sit back, sip a cup of Joe, and enjoy your outdoor fire pit.
An Outdoor Fire pit
A fire pit allows for you and your family to enjoy the outdoors all year round. Relax outside under the stars with the warmth of the fire well into the winter season. Some fire pits are portable, and easily moved to other parts of the yard or transferred to a new home. These portable fire pits provide a quick and simple way to add a fire element that requires no masonry or installation. A fire pit gives your family a place to unwind and party guests a break from the noise of holiday parties to come. Warm your hands over an open flame, toast marshmallows, and watch the cinders escape into the chilly night sky.
DIY Fire Pit
Scrolling through Pinterest boards makes DIY fire pit projects seem simple! Some people like to purchase blocks or stone to make an outdoor fire pit. However, in order to keep the pit from filling up with water after a heavy rainfall, make sure you line the bottom with a foot or more of gravel. Properly construct vents in your pit so that air sufficiently flows to the bottom of the firewood.
